Ship us your items and we do the rest — photography, listing, item specifics, buyer questions, packing and shipping. And because we list on Poshmark and Mercari at the same time, your item isn't waiting on eBay buyers alone.
eBay consignment is when someone else sells your item on eBay on your behalf. You hand over or ship the item. They photograph it, write the listing, set the price, answer buyer questions, handle offers and returns, and ship it when it sells. Then they pay you what the item earned, minus their fee and eBay's fees. You keep ownership of the item the whole time it's listed — you're not selling it to them, they're selling it for you.
It suits people who have things worth real money but no appetite for the work: a storage unit that needs clearing, an estate, a collection someone inherited, retail overstock, or simply a closet of good clothing that would take fifty evenings to list properly.
The reason consignment exists is that selling well on eBay is not one task, it's about eight — and most of them repeat for every single item:
Doing that once is fine. Doing it two hundred times is a job.
No upfront costs. The inbound shipping label is recouped from the sale proceeds — and if the item doesn't sell, you pay no fulfillment fee.
We send a prepaid inbound label, so getting your items to us costs nothing upfront. The label cost is recouped from proceeds when the item sells.
$0 upfront to send inWe photograph each item, research sold comps to price it, write the title and item specifics, and list it on eBay — plus Poshmark and Mercari simultaneously.
small monthly storage fee per itemWhen it sells — on eBay or anywhere else — we handle packing, postage and buyer messages, then pay you the proceeds minus fees.
flat fulfillment fee per saleIllustrative figures — founding rates are still being finalised, and eBay's own fees vary by category. No sale, no fulfillment fee.
Two separate things get taken out of a sale, and services aren't always clear about which is which.
For most categories eBay charges a final value fee of around 13.6% of the sale, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 on orders of $10 or less and $0.40 above that. Since eBay moved to managed payments there's no separate payment-processing fee — it's folded into that percentage.
The detail that catches most people out: the percentage applies to the whole amount the buyer pays, including the shipping they paid and sales tax — not just the item price. That's why the effective rate always feels higher than the headline number. Rates also differ by category, and eBay adjusts them periodically, so check eBay's current selling fees for your specific category before modelling anything.
This is where the market varies enormously. Many eBay consignment sellers take a percentage of the sale, commonly somewhere between 20% and 50%, and that's usually on top of eBay's fees rather than instead of them. Some also charge intake, photography or listing fees whether or not the item sells.
Whoever you end up using — us or anyone else — these are the questions worth asking before you ship anything:
Our own answer to that last one is a consignor dashboard with an itemised payout statement per item — sale price, eBay's cut, shipping, our fee, your net. It's the same tracking that runs the SnapLister platform we built for our own reselling.
Most consignment services list on eBay and stop there. Different marketplaces have genuinely different buyers, and which one sells your item fastest depends on what it is.
| eBay-only consignment | SnapLister | |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplaces | eBay | eBay, Poshmark & Mercari at once |
| Best for | Electronics, collectibles, tools, parts | Those, plus clothing and accessories that move faster on fashion-first apps |
| If it doesn't sell there | Relist and wait | It's already in front of buyers on the other two |
| Double-sale risk | Not applicable | Sold anywhere removes it everywhere automatically |
| Visibility | Varies by service | Per-item dashboard: where it's listed, what it sold for, how the payout was calculated |
We don't accept hazardous materials, recalled products, counterfeits, or anything prohibited by the marketplaces. Items need to be in sellable condition — if you're unsure whether something is worth sending, ask us first rather than paying to ship it twice.
eBay consignment means someone else sells your items on eBay for you. You hand over or ship the items, the consignment seller photographs them, writes the listing, manages questions and offers, ships the item when it sells, and then pays you the sale proceeds minus their fee and eBay's fees. You never touch the listing or the post office. The consignor keeps ownership of the item until it sells.
Rates vary widely across the industry. Many eBay consignment sellers take a percentage of the sale price, commonly somewhere between 20% and 50%, and that is usually charged on top of eBay's fees rather than instead of them. Some also charge intake, photography or listing fees whether or not the item sells. When comparing services, ask whether the quoted rate is before or after eBay's fees, and whether you pay anything if the item never sells.
For most categories eBay charges a final value fee of around 13.6% of the total sale, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 on orders of $10 or less or $0.40 on orders above that. The percentage is calculated on the full amount the buyer pays, which includes the shipping they paid and sales tax, not just the item price. That is why the effective rate usually feels higher than the headline number. Rates differ by category and change over time, so check eBay's current selling-fees page for your specific category.
Different marketplaces have different buyers. Clothing and accessories often sell faster on Poshmark or Mercari, while electronics, collectibles and tools tend to do well on eBay. A consignment service that only lists on eBay limits your item to one pool of buyers. We list the same item across eBay, Poshmark and Mercari at once and remove it everywhere else the moment it sells, so you get the reach without the risk of double-selling.
No. Items are listed through our established selling accounts, which already carry feedback history. A new eBay account with no feedback typically sells more slowly and at lower prices than an established one, so this is often a meaningful part of the value of consigning rather than selling yourself.
You pay no fulfillment fee if an item does not sell. After an agreed period we discuss options with you: reducing the price, relisting, returning the item to you, or donating it. Storage fees apply for as long as we hold the item.
Every item is tracked in the SnapLister platform from the moment we receive it. Your consignor dashboard shows where each item is listed, when it sold, what the buyer paid, and an itemised payout statement breaking down the sale price, eBay's fees, shipping, our fee and your net proceeds.
Plenty of people should. If you have the time and want to keep the full margin, the SnapLister platform is the software we built to run our own reselling — inventory and cost tracking, cross-listing across eBay, Poshmark, Mercari and Depop, net profit per item after fees, and full financial statements. Consignment is for when you'd rather have the time back.
